rome

We are back from a week of seeing Rome!  I almost went to Rome back in college, but at the last minute backed out, so it has been on my list of cities to visit.  It was especially fun, because Jason's mom was able to come along with us and the boys.  We enjoyed beautiful weather, oh it felt so good to not wear a jacket!  Rome can be intimidating when you walk out of the airport to the busy city!  But after a day of getting familiar with our surroundings, we settled in to our neighborhood just fine.  We stayed right in the middle of the city, and walked, and walked... and walked some more!  My favorite moment was when we turned down the long street, and at the end was the colosseum.  There is nothing like seeing it for the first time!  Just like the Eiffel Tower, you can see it in pictures and on TV, but seeing it in person was just beautiful and amazing!  We toured Ancient Rome, the Vatican (not the best time with kids, FYI) and roamed the streets to see what we could find.  We ate yummy food, gelato, coffee, (I don't think Jason will ever let me forget when I ordered him a latte.  --Not a caffe latte.  It was just milk. Whoops!) and Noah enjoyed a sugar donut every morning.  The boys did very well for the most part.  Asher was awesome and loved the stroller so much!  They both napped on the go, and enjoyed riding on our backs.  I think Noah's top fave things in Rome are: chasing the birds, ice cream, donuts, and throwing coins into the fountains.
This was our first big trip while living in the UK, first big trip as a family of four, really, and we learned and did pretty well with all the things you need to think about with young kids.  I'll probably do another post on that another time.

What an amazing adventure! Your photos are so lovely, Casey. You've convinced me to move Rome up on my "places to go someday" list. xo

Looks like an amazing trip. I spent time there in college and can't wait to go back this fall. The photo of the pizza made me even more excited.

I love seeing families vacations to places like Rome with little kids. Sometimes I worry that I wont be able to travel now that I have a little toddler but you have reminded me that I can have just as much adventure with him! Beautiful photos!
